Great Mom #3

The third and final Great Mom I would like to feature is by far one of the most influential people in my life.  She is the strongest woman I will ever know, she is my Grandmother. When my mother was too selfish to be a part of her children's lives, it was my Grandmother and Grandfather who stepped in, helping my father to ensure my sister, my brother  and I had the greatest life possible.

My grandparents had just finished raising their own children, yet they took us in as if we were their own. She may not have the title of my mother, but she is. She is my Grandmother. She is my best friend. When I am on cloud 9, it is her that I call. If I'm down in the dumps she lifts my spirits. She is always there to lend an ear.

Don't get me wrong, she can be strict, she can be stubborn, but it is she, who I strive to be most like. My husband tells me frequently that I am most like her and that pleases me. She struggled through her first marriage, as it was an abusive one. But with her strength, she left him and ended up finding her Prince Charming. The marriage of my grandparents is a mirror of everything a marriage should be. Prior to marrying my husband, I would say frequently that if I could have half the marriage they have, I would be a very happy woman.

This past year, my Grandfather ended up in the hospital and underwent a very serious surgery. While in the hospital he told me that he sees a lot of similarities to himself and my Grandmother in my husband and I. It may have been the medication talking, but either way it meant a lot to me.

To this day we call my Grandmother the "Don," because that is simply what she is. If she speaks, everyone listens, she is not a woman to be reckoned with. That being said, providing you have not crossed her the wrong way, she is the kindest woman you could ever know.

Most importantly................ she is the Greatest Mom I will ever know.

To all of you Great Mom's out there, Happy Mother's Day!

  3. I sounds like we have the same grandparent except I lived with my parents. But I was always closer to my Grandparents. I loved my mother but she was a very self centered person. We kids actually felt visible when we were with our grandparents.
    God Bless!

  6. What a beutiful post. Thank you so much for sharing! My Grandparents actually stepped in to take care of my sister and I, as well. I completely admire their committment to our family and know how scary my life would have ended up if I didn't have them. I look back and wish I would have spent more time with my Grandmother because she seriously was the mother who did everything and never complained about it. Incredible post, thanks :)
